IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PROSPECTIVE OSTEOPATHIC RESIDENTS INCLUDING TRI (TRADITIONAL ROTATING INTERNSHIP) APPLICANTS:
The ACGME has issued a proposed change to the common program requirements, which may go into effect on July 1, 2016. The proposed language is:
All prerequisite post-graduate clinical education required for entry into ACGME-accredited residency programs must be completed in ACGME-accredited residency programs, ACGME International-accredited residency programs, or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)-accredited residency programs located in Canada.
All applicants should think carefully about this requirement and its effect on prerequisite training, and your future training plans.
The Residency Experience
Nassau University Medical Center’s training environment provides first-hand experience for our trainees, allowing residents to care for a diverse patient population with a myriad of disease states. Daily contact with full-time attending physicians gives residents the opportunity to learn from a highly-experienced staff of top medical professionals.
The strong clinical experience at NUMC is complemented by a well-structured didactic lecture series that includes lectures from visiting professors and other professionals. In addition, a case-oriented, interactive morning report is conducted each morning and is attended by all house staff and many attending physicians. Monthly Journal Club presentations and conferences, as well as weekly Morbidity and Mortality Conferences, further broaden the formal educational content of NuHealth’s training programs. We also work with medical students and other allied health professionals to develop research opportunities as well as other special opportunities for personal and professional development.
