The NuHealth Foundation
Philanthropy’s role in advancing NuHealth’s mission has never been more important than it is today.
Through our network, which includes Nassau University Medical Center, A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility, and a network of community-based Family Health Centers, NuHealth delivers high-quality healthcare to hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders, including those who are underserved, uninsured and overlooked.
NuHealth’s mission is to ensure that every patient who needs quality medical care will receive it – with respect, excellence and compassion. Delivering on this promise requires the support of the community we so proudly serve.
The NuHealth Foundation is a 501(c)3, created in 2007 with a sole purpose: to generate philanthropic funds that will enable patients of the NuHealth System to enjoy the best possible care. Because of the Foundation, NuHealth has developed innovative clinical services, acquired state-of-the-art medical equipment, and made capital renovations that improve our patients’ experience. We’ve done these things in order to enhance patient care, and they were only possible because of the generous donors who share our vision.
Our success reflects a confidence in NuHealth’s leadership and its ability to chart a new course for the System’s future.

Recent NuHealth Foundation Gifts & Grants
The Kermit Gitenstein Foundation
A $1.2 million grant from The Kermit Gitenstein Foundation — the largest philanthropic gift in the history of the NuHealth Foundation — provided three full-field digital mammography units. This technology dramatically improves our patients’ experience by decreasing the wait time for appointments, increasing the speed and efficiency with which exams are performed, and expediting the interpretation of exam results. Above all, this grant helps further our commitment to bridging the divide between the types of services available to women who can afford private insurance, versus those who lack the financial means or ability to access such plans.
The Horace and Amy Hagedorn Fund
The Horace and Amy Hagedorn Fund provided a $180,000 gift to the Foundation to renovate the Family Waiting Area of NuHealth’s Obstetrics Department, transforming it into a warm, nurturing place for families to plan the arrival of their new babies.
Josiah Macy, Jr., Foundation
A $35,000 grant from the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation is enhancing the medical education opportunities of NuHealth’s community physicians by improving and promoting the clinical coordination to our most vulnerable patients.
Endo Pharmaceutical Laboratory
Endo Pharmaceutical Laboratory’s $10,000 donation will benefit NuHealth’s Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) program, which provides sexual assault survivors with a secure environment in which a specially trained team of experts administers vital medical advocacy and personal support services.
These gifts, along with many others, are helping to ensure that the NuHealth System continues to deliver on our commitment to providing quality health care to everyone, at every stage of life.
