Pediatric Ophthalmology

It is estimated that 80 percent of learning is visually based – and that means the health and function of your children’s eyes can mean the difference between failure and success. In fact, the American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends that every baby receive a vision examination between 6-12 months of age. NuHealth’s specialists in pediatric ophthalmology work closely with colleagues in Pediatrics to make sure every child has their best chance to learn to the best of their ability.

Pediatric eye care specialists at the NuHealth Eye Center at Nassau University Medical Center provide comprehensive eye care for babies to teens. Years of experience working with youngsters helps them ease the minds of nervous children and parents alike. Services include:

  • Eye-health evaluation
  • Visual -development evaluation
  • Strabismus surgery (crossed-eyes)
  • Congenital-cataract surgery
  • Retinopathy of prematurity evaluation and treatment

After examination, your pediatric ophthalmologist will recommend what, if any, additional follow-up care is needed…including referral to other staff members for specialty eye care and visual rehabilitation specialists.
