FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

ROSA SARAMAGO, CUSTODIAL WORKER, IS EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH AT THE NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER

East Meadow, NY…..Rosa Saramago, custodial worker in the department of environmental services at the Nassau University Medical Center, was honored as the September 2009 Employee of the Month at a reception hosted by the employees of the hospital. Rosa started working at the Nassau University Medical Center on February 4, 2008, initially as a part-time housekeeper but quickly was promoted to full-time status on March 3, 2008.  She works on the 6th floor, primarily in the burn unit and center for hypertension, diabetes and vascular disease, but also rotates to critical areas when needed.

In congratulating Rosa Saramago on her well-deserved recognition, Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation, said: “Ms. Saramago is a great asset to all the units she’s assigned to, with her co-workers describing her as very caring, always friendly, polite and happy.  She always makes sure that the patients’ rooms are all spotless and ready before they enter and she loves the new burn center, striving to keep everything looking brand new.   Actually, she treats the unit as if it were her own home.”
Rosa never complains about anything work related.  She is missed when not working and the staff on those units call for her when she is out.  She always goes above and beyond.  The staff on the 6th floor nominated her for Employee of the Month.
Rosa thanked the staff for the recognition and said, “I am grateful to be honored today. I like to see everything clean for the benefit of all our patients.” Rosa communicates with the nurses at all times and is careful not to intrude on the patients’ privacy.  She goes so far as to even clean the door hinges, and the outside of the elevator doors.  Rosa makes sure that her work is completed and the unit she is working on is spotless.  Patients and families know her by name; she greets staff and patients daily with a smile.  Her co-workers have said that, “a smile is part of Rosa’s uniform”, “always going above and beyond for our patients”, and “is a pleasure to work with”.

Gianelli added: “Many patients speak fondly of her and very appreciative of all she does for them.  She gives more than 100% of herself every day.  We are very proud that Rosa has been chosen to receive the Employee of the Month Award; she well deserves the honor.”

Ms. Saramago resides in Garden City Park with her family.
