NUMC’S KRISHAN KUMAR, MD, FACEP, RECEIVES CONGRESSIONAL CERTIFICATE OF MERIT

HONOR BESTOWED UPON NUMC’S DIRECTOR OF PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY IN RECOGNITION OF HIS COMMUNITY SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP IN SAPAC

East Meadow, NY… Krishan Kumar, MD, FACEP, director of pediatric emergency at the Nassau University Medical Center, was presented with a Congressional Certificate of Merit from Congressman Peter King on October 30, 2011,  in recognition of being awarded the 2011 Community Service and Leadership Award by the South Asian Political Action Committee.

SAPAC is a non-profit, non-partisan, civic and political organization created for identifying and resolving South Asian-American issues n the public spectrum.  SAPAC is a bipartisan organization.  SAPAC stands for building relationships and bridging the gaps between the South Asian-American Community and the political system.  SAPAC’s mission is to provide leadership in the public sector and put forth a South Asian-American agenda through advocacy, education, civic participation and outreach. 

“Congratulations to Dr. Kumar upon receiving the Congressional Certificate of Merit from Congressman King.  It is a well deserved award and a testament to Dr. Kumar’s commitment to community service and to excellent patient care for NUMC’s patients,” said Steven J. Dr. Kumar graduated from medical school in India in 1977 and immigrated to the US in 1984.  He joined Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, NY as a resident, and soon became associate director of emergency medicine in 1988.  He joined Nassau University Medical Center in 1990 as an attending in the department of emergency medicine/pediatrics.  Currently, he is serving as a director of pediatric emergency medicine.  Besides mentoring young physicians in their residency training, he has become a pillar for the department in clinical excellence.  Moreover, Dr. Kumar keeps busy in the academic world as an associate professor of pediatrics at State University of New York at Stony Brook. As a physician-scientist, he has published several papers in emergency medicine and chaired the prestigious conference of International Emergency Medicine “INTEM 2006,” in New Delhi, India. He works and teaches at all levels of emergency care, and is actively involved in the teaching and training of paramedic students and EMT’s.  Dr. Kumar is also a director of the Fire Police Academy at Nassau University Medical Center.

Dr. Kumar said:  “I am honored and proud to have been selected by Congressman King for this prestigious award.  I am deeply committed to quality patient care and to the good work performed by SAPAC on representing the perspective of the millions of South Asian-Americans and their heritage.”  Dr. Kumar resides in Queens.
