NUMC’S 18TH ANNUAL HIV SYMPOSIUM

On Wednesday, June 6, 2007 the Professional Education Program and the HIV Program in the Division of Infectious Diseases of Nassau University Medical Center, will hold the 18th annual symposium on HIV for health and social service providers.   HIV 2007: Issues in HIV Care, will be held from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM at the Hilton Huntington in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />Huntington, New York.  Continuing education credits in medicine and nursing will be available.

Symposium faculty are well-known experts in the field of HIV/AIDS.  Douglas T. Dieterich, MD, Medicine, the Mount Sinai Hospital Professor, Medicine, the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, will discuss:  HIV related liver disease:  Hepatitis B/Hepatitis C.  Roy Gulick, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Medicine, Weill Medical College of Cornell University Director, Cornell Clinical Trials Unit will give a Retro-Viral Therapy Update.  Brian Boyle, MD, JD, of New York Presbyterian Hospital/Cornell Medical Center will give an HIV Update.  Glenn J. Treisman, MD, Associate Professor, Director of AIDS Psychiatry, the Johns Hopkins Hospital will discuss the Psychiatry of AIDS:  Substance use disorders, and other mental illnesses.  Howard Grossman, MD, Assistant Attending Physician, St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons will provide a workshop on Women and HIV in developing countries.  Other workshop speakers include Alice Myerson, MD Primary Care Coordinator, Adolescent AIDS Program, Montefiore Hospital, Bronx.  Samuel Laurie, MS, Ed., Transgender Awareness Training and Advocacy, Melanie Steilen, RN, BSN, ACRN, Cicatelli Associates, Inc.
