NUMC STAFF HONORED

Nassau University Medical Center 14th floor staff was recently honored by Steven Walerstein, MD, Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Medical Director at a breakfast held in recognition of staff’s quick and decisive actions that prevented any injuries to patients and employees during a fire set by a psychiatric patient in the 14th floor. NUMC public safety officers extinguished the fire with hand held extinguishers. Nursing staff evacuated all 14th floor patients to the Auditorium. No patients or employees sustained any injuries as a result of this incident and NUMC personnel appropriately followed all hospital policies and procedures. NUMC staff was complimented for their quick and skilled response by the East Meadow Fire Department which responded to the incident.
