NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER’S PEDIATRIC CLINIC NURSE MANAGER, JOYCE MEISINGER, RN, SELECTED FOR THE NORTH FORK BANK HEALTH CARE NURSE HERO AWARD

— A STRONG MANAGER WHO IS SENSITIVE TO THE NEEDS OF NUMC’S DIVERSE PATIENT POPULATION AND THEIR FAMILIES —

Joyce Meisinger, RN, pediatric clinic nurse manager at Nassau University Medical Center has been selected as the North Fork Bank health care nurse hero for 2007.  In congratulating Ms. Meisinger on her selection as health care nurse hero, Arthur A. Gianelli, president/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation stated:  “It is a well-deserved honor for an exemplary nurse such as Joyce Meisinger to receive this most prestigious award.  All her decisions in the pediatric clinic are focused on what is best for our patients and serving as a role model for our staff.  She is a strong manager who is sensitive to the needs of our diverse patient population and their families.”

Ms. Meisinger oversees the delivery of health services to our pediatric population with approximately 16,000 visits per year.  In addition to primary care services, she manages care in specialties such as high-risk newborn, infectious diseases, surgery, renal, cardiac, gastrointestinal, hematology, allergy and neurology.  She also supervises the coordination of children needing to be scheduled for radiology tests with sedation.

Our honoree’s distinguished career spans over 30 years.  She has been employed at NUMC since 1974 and has experience in all areas of pediatric nursing.  Julie Mirkin, senior vice president for patient care services added: “As a manager, Joyce Meisinger recognizes and addresses her team’s needs, resulting in outstanding delivery of care in our pediatric outpatient area. Ms. Meisinger has creatively initiated systems that protect her young patients from errors.”   This year, Ms. Meisinger has planned and implemented the use of an electronic medical record in NUMC’s pediatric clinics. 

Ms. Meisinger spends time every summer accompanying chronic and terminally ill children to summer camp.  For the past eight years, she has volunteered her time at the Paul Newman Double H Hole in the Wall Camp. She will be honored at the Health Care Hero Awards Breakfast on October 18th at Crest Hollow Country Club along with heroes in five other categories.
