NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER’S KENNETH J. STEIER, DO, MHA, APPOINTED TO THE COUNCIL ON OSTEOPATHIC POST DOCTORAL TRAINING INSTITUTIONS

East Meadow, NY….Nassau University Medical Center’s (NUMC) critical care physician, Kenneth J. Steier, D.O., MHA, has been appointed to a three-year term on the Council on Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institutions (COPTI).

COPTI is the official national organization that oversees all American Osteopathic Association accredited training programs in the United States, such as NUMC’s Internal Medicine, PM&R, and rotating internship programs. This also includes training programs at the Cleveland Clinic, Deborah Health and Lung Medical Center, and the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital System. This national committee is responsible for oversight of residency training programs throughout the United States, including quality of instruction, supervision and dedication to patient safety and clinical excellence. Residency programs that do not meet the standards must submit plans of correction and make mandatory changes.

In making the appointment, John G. Crosby JD, Executive Director of COPTI said: “We are proud that you have agreed to be an AOA leader to help the profession move forward. We look forward to another productive year for osteopathic medicine.”

In congratulating Dr. Steier on his appointment to COPTI, Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation stated: “It is a well-deserved honor for Dr. Steier to have been appointed as a member of COPTI. Members of this important oversight committee are chosen for their expertise in graduate medical education and experience in academic medicine. They are nominated by a committee of the board of trustees of the American Osteopathic Association, and then individually chosen by the president of the AOA. This appointment demonstrates Dr. Steier’s ongoing commitment of hard work in graduate medical education for all our residents.
