The patient, an 18-year old Jamaican woman, was the victim of an acid assault in her country, which resulted in severe facial burns and disfiguration of her upper body. The doctors are donating their time and expertise to perform a series of complicated reconstruction operations, which is expected to take several years to complete. Travel and housing arrangements have been coordinated through the Leaf of Life Fund for Critically Ill Children and the Jamaican Consulate personnel who are continuing their fundraising efforts, within the Jamaican community on behalf of this young assault victim. In addition, two local women who had received a gift card totaling two thousand dollars during their appearance on the Oprah Show will be presenting the patient with this donation.
