EAST MEADOW, NY – JANUARY 4, 2017 — A Long Island Rail Road train derailed in Brooklyn during the morning commute on Wednesday morning sending dozens of passengers, most of whom commuters, to area hospitals to treat injuries.  Trauma and Emergency Room medical experts from Nassau University Medical are available to describe the variety of injuries suffered by passengers on board during the train crash.  The train stopped after it hit a bumper block at the end of the tracks. It was estimated that 600-700 people were on-board at the time of the accident.

The crash in the Atlantic Terminal station in Brooklyn around 8 am Wednesday morning sending the two front cars off the train tracks.  Many of the over 100 injured travelers on the train were removed by stretcher and taken to area hospitals.  Officials said the train ended up smashing through the wall of a waiting room away from the tracks. Officials said that investigators were looking to determine why the train did not stop short of the bumper. This was the latest in several commuter train crashes in recent months.
