NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER CRITICAL CARE AREA NURSES MEET WITH SHELNIL WALCOTT, PATIENT FROM THE ISLAND OF JAMAICA, WHO WILL UNDERGO EXTENSIVE RECONSTRUCTION SURGERIES FOLLOWING AN ACID ASSAULT IN HER COUNTRY.

Plastic surgeons at NUMC and the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, Roger Simpson, MD, and Louis Riina, MD, agreed to the reconstruction of this magnitude, which will require multiple surgical interventions as well as rehabilitation past the interventions. This lengthy process will require constant evaluations and treatments by the NUMC Burn Center care team, which includes physicians, nurses, social workers, occupational and physical therapists. At the conclusion of the reconstruction, the team hopes to achieve improvements both cosmetically and functionally.
