NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER ANNOUNCES NEWLY FORGED RELATIONSHIP WITH NORTH SHORE/LIJ ‘S KRASNOFF QUALITY MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE TO ACHIEVE CONTINUOUS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT IN ORDER TO PROVIDE HIGHEST QUALITY OF HEALTH CARE TO LONG ISLAND RESIDENTS

Nationally and internationally known Dr. Josef Dlugacz will help deepen our affiliation with the North Shore/LIJ Health System through NUMC’s continuing steps to change practice and improve organizational performance through quality

East Meadow, New York…..Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO Nassau Health Care Corporation announced today, at the monthly Board of Directors meeting, the newly forged relationship with the North Shore/LIJ Health System’s Krasnoff Quality Management Institute to achieve continuous quality improvements for NUMC’s patients. “Through the Krasnoff Quality Management Institute partnership, we reiterate our commitment to elevating our performance to the next level and beyond through assessing and improving the quality of healthcare that we provide to the residents of Long Island. The partnership will provide us with the experience and expertise in improving the culture of quality and measuring the standards of quality through collaboration and trust, communication and promoting teamwork, and an acceptance of change,” said Mr. Gianelli.

Yosef D. Dlugacz, Ph.D., is the Senior Vice President and Chief of Clinical Quality, Education and Research of the Krasnoff Quality Management Institute of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System. The goal of the Institute is to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge learned in the academic setting and the realities of applying quality management methods in today’s health care environment. With decades of experience dealing with process variables and educating professionals and the community about the importance of integrating quality methods into the delivery of care to improve health outcomes, Dr. Dlugacz’s research focuses on developing models for improved patient safety and clinical outcomes. Dr. Dlugacz collaborates with other professionals and organizations to be at the forefront of the national agenda in improving health care services.

Dr. Dlugacz has been invited to consult with various health care organizations and his established methodologies have been praised nationally and internationally. He is Adjunct Research Professor at New York University, a Visiting Professor to Beijing University’s MBA Program. He is also a guest lecturer at the University of Padova, in Padova, Italy; Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil; and, Helsingborg Hospital and Uppsala University in Sweden. He is a consultant for the Joint Commission Resources and has appeared in numerous national video teleconferences promoting quality and safety. Dr. Dlugacz has published widely in health care and quality management journals on a variety of clinical care and quality topics.

Dr. Dlugacz will provide his expertise on the following areas, all dedicated to improving the quality of healthcare for NUMC’s patients:

– Measurement of quality standards

– Ability to benchmark us with other members of the North Shore/Long Island Jewish Health System.

– Education, research, support for NUMC’s quality efforts

– Institute will be a warehouse keeper for all of NUMC’s quality data.

– Consultative advice on targeted areas.

“A hospital-wide quality management program evaluation will be conducted with administrative, medical and nursing leadership and recommendations will be generated from the review to provide an overview of necessary changes, reinforce already proposed modifications and further develop strategies to enhance the communication structure,” said Dr. Dlugacz.

Steven Walerstein, MD, Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Medical Director for the Nassau Health Care Corporation stated: “The partnership with the Krasnoff Quality Management Institute will allow us to build on a solid foundation, be part of a nationally recognized health care system dedicated to the improvement of quality and provide us with a comfort level relative to the quality of health care provided to the residents of Long Island.”
