East Meadow, NY……………..Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, NuHealth/NUMC’s President/CEO, proudly announces that, in its most recent New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) Nursing Home Quality Initiative, the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility (AHP) in Uniondale, received the top performing facility ranking, with only 4 out of 77 nursing homes on Long Island achieving this special achievement, for three consecutive years in the top quintile. In addition, AHP maintained its five stars in quality measures from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Nursing Home Compare Ratings of Nursing Homes (CMS).

“Recognition as a “Top Performing Facility” by the NYS DOH and retaining five stars in quality from CMS are exceptional achievements and speak to the continued high quality of care provided by the staff at AHP,” stated Dr. Politi. “It also speaks to the clinical leadership of Lawrence Diamond, MD, Medical Director and Marie Magloire, RN, Nursing Director for the nursing home. Congratulations to the entire hard-working team for maintaining the tremendous success of the overall strategy for quality and safety for our nursing home residents.”

The New York State Nursing Home Quality Initiative (NHQI) is an annual quality and performance evaluation project to improve the quality of care for residents in Medicaid-certified nursing facilities across New York State. The current NHQI is based on the previous calendar year’s performance and is worth 100 points. Nursing Initiative (NHQI) is an annual quality and performance evaluation project to improve the quality of care for residents in Medicaid-certified nursing facilities across New York State. The current NHQI is based on the previous calendar year’s performance and is worth 100 points. Nursing homes are awarded points for quality and performance measures in the components of Quality, Compliance, and Efficiency. Specific deficiencies cited during the health inspection survey process are also incorporated into the results. The points for all measures are then summed to create an overall score for each facility. Facilities are ranked into quintiles based on their overall scores. Quintile one represents the top-performing facilities, while quintile five represents the lowest-performing. All facilities within a quintile are considered to be the same in terms of quality and performance.

Robert Heatley, Executive V.P. and Acting Administrator for AHP commended the AHP staff for their exceptional dedication and commitment to quality and safe care for all 589 residents of the nursing home: “This recognition of only four out of 77 nursing homes on L.I. achieving special status, would not have been possible without our staff’s emphasis on quality of care and safety of our nursing home residents, with staff’s hard work day to day, all year long. It is a remarkable achievement and we are so proud of what it means for us and for all our residents.”
