2007 ANNUAL NUMC RESIDENT RESEARCH DAY, ORGANIZERS & PARTICIPANTS. – NUMC DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE

Nassau University Medical Center held its annual resident research day whereby residents presented posters on various research projects that they had worked on under the supervision of their attendings. Resident Research Day was held on May 3rd with poster presentations and competition. Categories were Clinical Vignettes (28) and Clinical Research(8). Drs. Cuyjet, Frieri, Hupart, Iqbal, S. Mehreshi & Steier served as judges.

The following criteria were used for judging: originality, significance, presentation, methods, visual impact and the interview. In the clinical vignette category, the winner was “Miller Fisher Syndrome with Cerebellar Atrophy: Could This Be the Cause of Ataxia?” The authors were Drs.Eke, Bhattarai, Job, Agarwal, Kadakia, O’Reilly and Zhuang.  The runner-up was “Spontaneous Pneumorrhacis, Pneumopericardium, Pneumomediastinum & Subcutaneous Emphysema after an Episode of Vomiting'” authored by Drs. S Rashid, J. Singh, S. Sandhu & Iqbal. For clinical research, “The management of CAP at a tertiary hospital & opportunities for improvements in clinical outcomes: a phase 1 retrospective study” took first place; the authors were Drs. Rahman, Shareef, Walertstein and Job. Second place was awarded to Drs. Jean, Eke, Moosavi, Job & Walerstein for “Central line related pneumothorax: NUMC experience.” The competition was intense and all of the residents and attendings are to be congratulated.
