East Meadow, NY……….Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, NuHealth/NUMC’s President/CEO, announces that two of the Nassau University Medical Center’s family medicine residents, Matthew Reifler, DO and Syed A. Maqsood, DO, had been invited to present their scientific research posters at the annual poster competition which took place on April 7, 2017, at the Regional Osteopathic Convention of the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our family medicine residents to participate in a scientific convention and to have their research posters presented and discussed at the poster competition,” said Dr. Politi. “We are very proud that they submitted their abstracts and were invited to present their research.”
Peter A. Guiney, DO, Chair and Residency Program Director for the Department of Family Medicine at NUMC, served as a mentor for the two lead authors: Matthew Reifler, DO, PGY-I and Syed Maqsood, DO, PGY-II.Dr. Reifler’s research dealt with “Elevated Liver Function Tests in Legionnaires’ Disease” and Dr. Maqsood’s research was titled “Vascular Lesions in Childhood: What You See Is Not Always What You Get: A Case Report”.
Dr. Guiney indicated: “We are very proud to have our residents represent NUMC at this regional competition. It shows our family medicine residents are involved in scholarly activity in the form of research and we look forward to having them enter other regional competitions such at NYCOMEC and NUMC’s own Resident Research Day.”
