NASSAU HEALTH CARE CORPORATION’S HEROES IN HEALTH 2007 GALA, AN OVERWHELMING SUCCESS, HELPING TO RAISE OVER $250,000 TO BENEFIT THE NEW CENTER FOR HYPERTENSION, DIABETES AND VASCULAR MEDICINE AT NUMC

INCREDIBLE SUPPORT, BY SIX HONOREES AND THE LONG ISLAND COMMUNITY, HELPED TO CREATE MOMENTUM THAT ENCOURAGED 650 PEOPLE TO ATTEND

East Meadow, New York…..Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation announced that the Heroes in Health 2007 Gala attended by 650 guests at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, had raised well over $250,000 for the new Center for Hypertension, Diabetes and Vascular Medicine at NUMC.
“The overwhelming support by the Gala’s six honorees and the Long Island community helped to create the momentum and excitement that prompted 650 guests to attend.  Opening in early 2008, the Center will address afflictions that impact residents throughout Nassau County and partner with NHCC’s Institute for Healthcare Disparities to implement concrete clinical interventions of residents mostly from medically underserved areas,” said Mr. Gianelli.

Mr. Gianelli went on to thank the honorees for their support:  “County Executive Suozzi has provided the NHCC with the resources necessary to further our mission and modernize our facilities; Board Chairman Martin Payson has guided us through some challenges, offering wisdom when most needed; Michael Dowling President and Chief Executive Officer of the North Shore LIJ Health System, helped us through the resources of his system quality of care we provide to our patients; Nassau County Legislator Norma Gonsalves has stood by the NHCC, championing our cause to her constituents; Reverend Reginald Tuggle has challenged us to fulfill our commitment to addressing disparities in the delivery of care to minority populations, and finally, State Senator Kemp Hannon has quietly, but effectively, persuaded his fellow lawmakers that our safety net facilities play a special role in the lives of our most vulnerable residents.”

Greg-Partric Martello, Esq., a member of the board of directors of the NHCC, chaired the event:  “The committee worked diligently to ensure an evening of great fun, a superb reception and a huge financial success,” said Mr. Martello.
In addition to the six honorees, two NUMC department heads were recognized by receiving the Earl Stroughton Memorial Award for their commitment to excellence, to the success of the hospital and its patients:  Helen Lavas, Director of Organizational Excellence for her compassion and caring, and Linda Walsh, Director of Therapeutic Recreation for serving as an advocate for NUMC’s patients.

Mr. Gianelli concluded by thanking all 650 supporters of the NHCC for their commitment and support of Nassau’s safety net institutions:” “Hosting our first annual Gala at Nassau’s beautiful Cradle of Aviation Museum is immensely appropriate.  The Cradle commemorates flight.  What we’re doing tonight is taking off, flying into a future that is full of promise and possibility.  So, I want to thank everyone for supporting our fundraiser.  Your support means a great deal to the NHCC, and our celebration is every bit as much about how far we’ve come as it is about where we want to go.  We’re so happy that you’ve decided to join us on this special journey.”
