JULY 18, 2007 STORM IMPACTS

Torrential rains starting at 8:00 AM, caused flooding in Nassau University Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center, located in East Meadow, New York.

The Emergency Department was affected and total diversion was in effect from 9 AM to 10:30 AM. From 10:30 until 11:45 AM only trauma patients were diverted to other hospitals. At 11:45 AM we began accepting all patients in our Emergency Department. Morning and afternoon outpatient clinics were cancelled with the exception of Women’s Clinic, Children’s Clinic and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation clinic. Operating rooms remain functioning. Emergency preparedness plans functioned well. Dedicated staff responded extremely well to the crisis and patient care was not affected.

Flooding has subsided and normal conditions are being restored.
