VICTOR J. SCARMATO, MD, APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF RADIOLOGY AT THE NASSAU HEALTH CARE CORPORATION

East Meadow, NY………Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC) and Steven J. Walerstein, M.D., Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Medical Director, announced the appointment of Victor J. Scarmato, MD to the position of Chairman of Radiology at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC).

“As a result of our collaborative efforts and working relationship with the North Shore/LIJ Healthcare System (NSLIJ),  we have been successful in recruiting someone with Dr. Scarmato’s leadership qualities and expertise in the field of radiology to assist us in meeting our challenges and fulfilling our goals in the Radiology Department.  One of Dr. Scarmato’s priorities will be to support NUMC’s radiology residency program, to enhance and expand the radiological component of the corporation and better integrate that with the overall mission of the hospital,” said Mr. Gianelli.

Dr. Scarmato comes to NUMC from North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, NY, where he was the Physician in Charge of Gastrointestinal Radiology.  After graduating from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., Dr. Scarmato completed his residency training in Radiology at North Shore University Hospital.  He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Radiology.  The author of several papers and multiple presentations, Dr. Scarmato completed his Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Dr. Walerstein added:  “Dr. Scarmato is well known as a medical educator and as a leader in gastrointestinal radiology having served with distinction as Director of Gastrointestinal Radiology at North Shore University Hospital.   We are fortunate to have recruited someone with his extensive experience to lead NUMC’s efforts to modernize radiology and to enhance our outpatient radiology services.”

Dr. Scarmato, who has published extensively, is also an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the New York University School of Medicine.  He has served on numerous committees at North Shore University Hospital, as well as various committees in other national professional organizations.  Dr. Scarmato resides in Glen Cove.
