FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

US REPRESENTATIVE CAROLYN McCARTHY PRESENTS $306,549 EARMARK TO HELP FUND THE NASSAU HEALTH CARE CORPORATION INSTITUTE FOR HEALTHCARE DISPARITIES’ OUTREACH PROGRAMS FOR THE PREVENTION, DETECTION AND MANAGEMENT OF DISEASES IN MINORITY COMMUNITIES AND TO HELP INITIATE NUCARE, A PROGRAM TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE TO THE UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED

FUNDS VITAL TO HELP FULFILL COMMITMENT TO PROVIDE QUALITY HEALTH CARE TO ALL RESIDENTS OF NASSAU COUNTY

East Meadow, NY——– At a meeting attended by Nassau Health Care Corporation officials at the Nassau University Medical Center, United States Representative Carolyn McCarthy presented a federal earmark check for $306,549 to help fund the NHCC Institute for Healthcare Disparities’ outreach programs for the prevention, detection and management of diseases in minority communities and to help initiate NuCare, a program providing access to healthcare to the uninsured and underinsured.

In presenting the check to Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NHCC, Congresswoman McCarthy stated:  “I am delighted to join with you today and present you with funds, set aside, to help institutions such as yours to achieve their goals.  We determined that NHCC was worthy of receiving this earmark as these funds are vital for an institution such as NHCC, whose mission is to give the best health care to all.”  Congresswoman McCarthy continued by adding:  “I am committed to providing funds for innovative programs such as the IHD for research and the expansion of needed services in minority communities, as well as programs that work to gain a better understanding of the size and nature of the uninsured population in order to remove barriers and focus on disease management rather than episodic care.”

In expressing his appreciation on behalf of the Board of Directors and all the employees of the NHCC, Mr. Gianelli said:  “We are grateful that Congresswoman McCarthy has recognized our efforts to marshall all our resources to help the uninsured.  These funds will help fund two very significant programs, helping with our outreach in communities of need, by eliminating disparities and redirecting healthcare access and tear down barriers to access to healthcare, thereby, fulfilling our commitment to provide quality healthcare to the residents of Nassau County and greater healthcare access to Nassau’s vulnerable population.”
