East Meadow, NY….Underscoring the critical role that the NuHealth System plays as an essential health provider in Nassau County, Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO, indicated that the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) and the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility (AHP), played a unique role in accepting evacuated patients and residents for transfer.
57 hospital patients were evacuated from Long Beach Hospital into NUMC and 35 nursing home residents were transferred into AHP. The transfer which occurred on Sunday, October 28, 2012, was completed very smoothly thanks to the support and dedication of NUMC and AHP staff.
NuHealth’s Hospital Emergency Management Plan was activated at 8:00AM on Monday, October 29, 2012, through the Hospital Incident Command System. Since our primary obligation is to ensure the safety and well-being of all our patients, nursing staff will be mandated to stay over beyond their normal shift. We will deploy our labor pool to assist the nursing department with clerical needs. All residents without assignment will assist on the patient floors. All scheduled support services employees in dietary, housekeeping, engineering, etc.. have reported to work. Medical, pharmaceutical, blood and food supplies are in sufficient quantities at both the hospital and nursing home. Generators are in working condition in the event of loss of power. As always, we will do everything humanly possible to ensure the safety and well-being of our staff, patients and visitors.
