The NuHealth Foundation Launches Historic “Path to NuHealth” Brick Campaign
First Donor Wall invites public support for the “people’s hospital”, and for health care excellence

Long Island, NY, May 2011 — For the first time ever, the landmark Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) will add new names to its facade. In fact, hundreds of them by the time its new brick-naming campaign, “Path to NuHealth” is complete this fall.

“Path to NuHealth” is NUMC’s first public fund raiser, inviting community participation in support of the provision of high quality health care throughout the NuHealth System ( including NUMC, Long Island’s only safety net hospital, A. Holly Patterson nursing home, South Ocean Care and several Federally Qualified Family Health Centers.)

Until forming the NuHealth Foundation in 2007, NuHealth lacked a philanthropic arm. And yet, NuHealth, like all health systems, needs the support of its community in order to provide the best possible care for its patients, a large number of whom come from areas with significant health and socio economic need.

“We believe everyone, no matter what their circumstance, has a right to expect and to receive quality health care, and our mission is to ensure that they do,” says Arthur Gianelli, NuHealth President and CEO.

With brick prices from $100 to $1,000, the NuHealth Foundation aims to sell hundreds of bricks for a new Donor Wall on the elevated walkway outside of NUMC’s brand new Emergency Department — one of many NuHealth modernization projects designed to upgrade everything from infrastructure and technology to aesthetics, in order to improve patient outcomes.

“A few early donations got the campaign off to a good start,” says Paul J. Tonna, chairman of the NuHealth Foundation’s Board of Directors. “Fellow board member Zaki Hossain and his wife Rahat pledged $30,000 and the NY Community Bank Foundation bought our first $500 brick. This is an important campaign and I am looking forward to a wonderful show of support.”

The bricks on the wall will carry messages from grateful patients, families, employees, local businesses and compassionate others, creating a lasting symbol of role NUMC has played in so many lives on Long Island, and in the community at large.

“The Donor Wall will be the perfect welcome mat to NUMC, signaling to patients that they are in a place where there is good care and strong community support,” adds Deidra Parrish Williams, executive director of the NuHealth Foundation.
