STROKE SCREENING AND AWARENESS DAY AT NASSAU HEALTH CARE CORPORATION’S ELMONT COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER ON MAY 16TH, 2009

MAY IS AMERICAN STROKE MONTH

East Meadow, New York……Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Corporation, announces that the Elmont Community Health Center will host a Stroke Risk Assessment Day on Saturday, May 16, 2008 between 9am and 1:00pm at the facility at 161 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont, New York.  Mr. Gianelli indicates that: “NHCC is working with the American Stroke Association to increase awareness of stroke risk factors and suggest ways to modify or reduce your risks.  We are dedicated to raising awareness about our nation’s No. 3 killer.”

NUMC and The American Stroke Association want you to learn the warning signs of stroke:

Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
Sudden, severe headache with no known cause    

If you notice one or more of these signs, don’t wait. Stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911 or your emergency medical services. Get to a hospital right away!  Time lost is brain lost!
