East Meadow, NY……During construction of the new primary care center on the first floor of NUMC, construction workers were welding and created a smoke condition which filtered down to the ground floor. As a precaution, we evacuated the clinic patients on the ground floor while the fire department assessed the situation. The EM Fire Department is on the scene and has advised that the situation is under control and no further action is necessary at this time. The area in question is being vented. The hospital has returned to normal operating conditions.
