FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SPOTLIGHT AWARD PRESENTED TO NHCC’S MEDICAID DEPARTMENT FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AND INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY

East Meadow, NY…..The Medicaid Department is being recognized with the NHCC’s Spotlight Award for its outstanding performance and increased productivity throughout 2009.

“Notwithstanding the ever-increasing number of uninsured patients requiring the assistance of our Medicaid Department, our employees have not simply met this challenge, but have raised the bar to incredible new heights.  The teamwork, outstanding performance and increased productivity in the Medicaid Department are a model that we need to replicate throughout the Corporation,” stated Arthur A. Gianelli, NHCC President/CEO.

The Medicaid Department, located at the Nassau University Medical Center, has gone from monthly submissions of 338 new applications in 2008 to monthly submissions of 425 new applications in 2009.  That is a 25% increase in productivity.  “As impressive, this remarkable improvement has been accomplished without sacrificing quality as we continue to enjoy an approval rate in excess of 80%,”added Gary Bie, NHCC senior vice president for finance and chief financial officer.  “Accordingly, the increased productivity in 2009 translates to more than 70 additional inpatient Medicaid approvals each month.  These 70 additional billable approvals promote the Corporation’s ability to build a sustainable health care system that will not only survive, but improve upon its ability to deliver quality healthcare services to all who seek our help.”

Long Islanders have suffered lost jobs and lost insurance coverage.  While the government’s efforts to stimulate the economy have begun to take hold, we are continually cautioned that the economic recovery will be long and slow and improved employment numbers will lag the recovery.  It is comforting to know that we have a diligent and committed staff in our Medicaid Department to see us through.  For all of these reasons, NHCC is delighted to present the Spotlight Award to NUMC’s Medicaid Unit.
