SONIA BERRIOS VILLANUEVA, NUHEALTH’S ADMINISTRATOR OF OB/GYN, APPOINTED TO BRIARCLIFFE COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

EAST MEADOW, NY…Sonia Berrios Villanueva, administrator of obstetrics and gynecology at the NuHealth System, has been named to the Briarcliffe College Board of Trustees for a three-year term, effective March 2012.

In a recent letter informing Ms. Berrios Villanueva of her appointment, Briarcliff President, George Santiago, Jr., PhD., stated: “It is my pleasure to inform you that Career Education Corporation, through a recommendation from the Briarcliffe College Board of Trustees, has voted to approve your membership to the Briarcliffe College Board of Trustees, effective March 15, 2012 for a three year term. Congratulations!”

Briarcliffe College is an accredited college, dedicated to providing career-focused education to diverse student populations since 1966. As a trustee, Ms. Berrios Villanueva will help, along with the other trustees, to set policy to instill the diverse student population with the knowledge, skills and confidence to pursue success in an increasingly competitive market.   They recently received approval to include the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration to their curriculum.

Mrs. Villanueva has over 25 years of experience in healthcare administration.  In addition to her administrative role, she has always worked closely with community and faith-based organizations that provide support services to the underserved communities to promote good health, especially improving access to health.  At the Nassau University Medical Center, she continues to pursue her passion of advocating for the underserved and helping them navigate in a new environment that’s complicated and punctuated with a language barrier.    Throughout her career, she has always mentored interns from Long Island University and Hofstra University.

“I look forward to my new role as a Briarcliffe College board of trustee member  to advocate for the students and to be part of the decision making process that will have a positive impact on their academic success,” said Ms. Berrios Villanueva, in accepting her appointment.

Ms. Berrios Villanueva is a resident of Fort  Salonga.
