EAST MEADOW, NY…Roger Simpson, MD, MBA, FACS, director of the burn center at the Nassau University Medical Center and a board-certified plastic surgeon with the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, has been invited to present a paper at the American Association of Plastic Surgeons 91st Annual Conference, on facial paralysis reconstruction. The annual meeting of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons will take place during the week of April 14 to 17, 2012 in San Francisco, California, with plastic surgeons from all over the world expected to attend.
Dr. Simpson, whose paper is entitled “Contiguous Temporalis and Masseter Muscle Transfer for Reanimation of the Smile in Facial Paralysis”, stated: “I am honored to have been invited to present a paper that I authored for our AAPS conference, the oldest and most prestigious in plastic surgery, where most papers represent years of accumulated work. It is humbling to have one’s work accepted in this forum and I am very pleased to share my knowledge with such an impressive group of plastic surgeons.”
The purpose of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons is to advance the science and art of plastic surgery through surgical education, research, scientific presentations, and professional interaction. The Association conducts an annual scientific program concerning topics of interest to plastic surgeons. The meeting is available to physicians who are either members or guests of the Association. The educational activities are limited to the annual scientific meeting which includes peer-review presentations and panel discussions. The goal of the program is to provide current information on new developments, as well as reviews of established plastic surgical practices.
Dr. Simpson has been the director of the residency training program in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) for the last 20 years. He is also the chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery, director of the burn center and chief of the hand surgery service at NUMC. Dr. Simpson is an assistant professor of clinical surgery at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Simpson also directs LIPSG’s Center for Facial Paralysis where he provides state-of-the-art, life-altering surgery to restore function to patients’ paralyzed facial nerves caused by stroke, disease or traumatic injury.
