ROGER SIMPSON, MD, FACS, INVITED TO PRESENT AT THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF PLASTIC SURGEONS ON FACIAL PARALYSIS RECONSTRUCTION
EAST MEADOW, NY…Roger Simpson, MD, FACS, director of the burn center at the Nassau University Medical Center and a board-certified plastic surgeon with the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, has been invited to present a course at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons on facial paralysis reconstruction. The annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons will take place on September 23-24, 2011 in Denver, Colorado with plastic surgeons from all over the world expected to attend.
According to Dr. Simpson, whose Instructional course is titled: Reanimation of the Paralyzed Face Using Contiguous Muscle Transfers, “The course to be given on Facial Paralysis reconstruction is unique. It will encompass regional muscle transfers as well as microsurgical procedures. Few specialists in the country concentrate in this field. It is a course that is well received.”
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is the largest plastic surgery specialty organization in the world. Founded in 1931, the society is composed of board-certified plastic surgeons who perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
The mission of ASPS is to advance quality care to plastic surgery patients by encouraging high standards of training, ethics, physician practice and research in plastic surgery. The society advocates for patient safety, such as requiring its members to operate in accredited surgical facilities that have passed rigorous external review of equipment and staffing. The society works in concert with the Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF), founded in 1948, which supports research, international volunteer programs and visiting professor programs.
Dr. Simpson has been the director of the residency training program in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) for the last 20 years. He is also chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery, director of the burn center and chief of the hand surgery service at NUMC. Dr. Simpson is an assistant professor of clinical surgery at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Simpson also directs LIPSG’s Center for Facial Paralysis where he provides state-of-the-art, life-altering surgery to restore function to patients’ paralyzed facial nerves caused by stroke, disease or traumatic injury. Dr. Simpson also focuses on burn reconstruction and hand surgery as well as performing general plastic and reconstructive surgery.
