ROGER L. SIMPSON, MD, MBA, FACS, DIRECTOR OF NUMC’S PLASTIC SURGERY DIVISION, TO RECEIVE THE 2009 DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD FROM THE NASSAU SURGICAL SOCIETY, IN RECOGNITION OF HIS LONG STANDING COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE IN RESIDENT EDUCATION
East Meadow, NY……. Roger L. Simpson, MD, MBA, FACS, NUMC’s director of the residency training program in plastic and reconstructive surgery and director of the burn center at NUMC, will be presented with the 2009 Distinguished Service Award from the Nassau Surgical Society, in recognition of his long standing commitment to excellence in resident education and service to the Nassau Surgical Society. Dr. Simpson will receive his award at a recognition dinner on May 13, 2009 at the Westbury Manor, where he will be honored for his dedication as a teaching professional, for his research and his extensive writing in professional and academic journals.
Founded in 1938, the Nassau Surgical Society’s mission is to advance the surgical knowledge of its members and hold all members to the highest standards of ethics and the delivery of services. It achieves this mission by promoting study and discussion among its members on the science and practice of surgery; encouraging members to present and publish scientific papers related to their surgical specialties; and disseminating information of public interest regarding all aspects of surgery.

Gianelli, NHCC President/CEO, congratulated Dr. Simpson on his upcoming Distinguished Service Award and said: “Dr. Simpson is well deserving of this award, for his many years of expertise in clinical education of hundreds of residents and fellows and for his commitment to quality care for patients of the Nassau University Medical Center.
A native of New York City, Dr. Roger L. Simpson has been a partner in the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group since 1980. Dr. Simpson graduated magna cum laude from the University of Brussels School of Medicine in 1974. He completed his general surgery residency and his plastic surgery residency at the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, NY.
Dr. Simpson received certification from the American Board of Surgery in 1980 and the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1981. Subsequently, Dr. Simpson completed a prestigious fellowship in hand surgery at the Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City in 1981, attaining the Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery. Since 1989, Dr. Simpson has been the director of the residency training program in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Nassau University Medical Center. Dr. Simpson holds several additional positions at Nassau University Medical Center, including chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery, director of the burn center and chief of the hand surgery service. As a teaching professional, Dr. Simpson is an assistant professor of clinical surgery at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Dr. Simpson has addressed professional colleagues at numerous symposia and workshops throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan. He has published his work in textbooks, and professional and academic journals on topics relating to plastic and reconstructive surgery, facial paralysis, burn reconstruction, and hand surgery.
Dr. Simpson said: “It is a great honor and privilege to be recognized with this distinction by the Nassau Surgical Society, a prestigious organization committed to advancing the surgical expertise of its members.”
