RENEE BARGMAN, MD, JOINS NUMC’S PEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY DIVISION, TREATING INCREASING VOLUME OF DIABETIC AND OBESE CHILDREN

East Meadow, New York, …… Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announced that Renee Bargman, MD, has joined the Nassau University Medical Center’s pediatrics department as an endocrinologist, specializing in childhood diabetes and obesity.  In welcoming Dr. Bargman, Gianelli stated:   “I am delighted to welcome Dr. Bargman who will be a wonderful addition to our division of pediatric endocrinology, where she will oversee our increasing volume of children being treated for diabetes and obesity.”

Dr. Renee Bargman graduated from the SUNY Downstate Medical School and completed both her pediatrics residency and pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York.  During her fellowship training, Dr. Bargman conducted basic research in osteogenesis imperfecta and authored a number of papers on it.  She has experience in the treatment of a variety of pediatric endocrinologic conditions, including type I and type II diabetes, pituitary abnormalities, thyroid disorders, short and tall stature, disorders of puberty, adrenal disorders, metabolic bone disease, electrolyte disorders and obesity.  Dr. Bargman is experienced in using insulin pumps as well as glucose monitors and believes that intensive control of diabetes provides the best results.

Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, executive vice president for medical affairs added:  “We are fortunate in recruiting a specialist who is committed to high quality care and  promoting services and education for our pediatric endocrinology patients through her obesity clinics on Monday and Wednesday mornings, endocrine clinic on Thursday mornings and is contemplating adding another endocrine clinic on Thursday evening as a convenience to families who are reluctant to miss school or work.”

Michael Frogel, MD,  chairman of pediatrics stated:  “The addition of Dr. Bargman, a superbly trained pediatric endocrinologist from a renowned program at Weil Cornell, will greatly enhance our ability to care for the full gamut of pediatric endocrine disorders from the neonatal period through adolescents. The current epidemic of childhood obesity and subsequent increasing numbers of diabetic children need Dr. Bargman’s expertise for treatment and perhaps more importantly prevention. She will be available for consultation to patients of primary care pediatricians, and to the community at large for family and school-based education and preventive programs.”

Dr. Bargman indicated:  “I am pleased to join the dedicated staff in the pediatric department at NUMC where we can provide a much needed benefit to those patients suffering from endocrine disease, especially diabetes and obesity.”
