RACHEL ROBBINS, MD, JOINS NUMC AS CHAIR OF PATHOLOGY AND LABORATORIES

RACHEL ROBBINS, MD, JOINS NUMC AS CHAIR OF PATHOLOGY AND LABORATORIES

East Meadow, NY…………..Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, NuHealth’s President/CEO, announces that Rachel Robbins, MD, has joined the Nassau University Medical Center as Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratories. The department includes gold standard infectious disease testing in the virology and microbiology laboratories, blood banking and transfusion services, as well as molecular diagnostics and cytopathology. Anatomic pathology services include surgical pathology, cytology and fine needle aspiration.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Robbins as our new chair of the department of pathology and laboratories where she will lead a department that our physicians rely on for timely, precise analysis of blood and tissue,” stated Dr. Politi. “We are fortunate to have been able to recruit someone with many years of experience and who exemplifies a commitment to excellence in providing diagnostic information on the identity and causative factors of human disease.”

Dr. Robbins earned her M.D. at Cornell University Medical School.  She trained at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, including a fellowship in neuropathology.  In addition, she completed fellowships in surgical pathology and orthopedic pathology at New York University School of Medicine and the Hospital for Joint Diseases, respectively.  She completed her undergraduate studies at the  University of Pennsylvania, including a year at the University of Oxford. She is board-certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.  She is a published author of multiple articles and holds an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine.  Dr Robbins arrives at NUMC having spent the previous fourteen years as a pathologist in the North Shore-LIJ Health System, most recently as Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Services at Glen Cove Hospital. Dr. Robbins chaired several committees and served on several others at Glen Cove Hospital and in the pathology department of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. 

Dr. Victor Scarmato, acting medical director at NUMC, joined in welcoming Dr. Robbins to the clinical staff: “We are very fortunate to have recruited Dr. Robbins, who brings many years of experience as a pathologist which have prepared her very well for the challenges and opportunities ahead and which will be very valuable as she leads the department at NUMC.”

Upon accepting her appointment, Dr. Robbins indicated: “It is with great enthusiasm that I join NUMC, a hospital with a long tradition of providing quality care to Nassau’s most vulnerable populations and one with a dedicated and committed staff. I look forward to working with my colleagues at NUMC to further its mission.”

She lives with her husband and two sons in Roslyn.
