NUMC’S SONIA BERRIOS-VILLANUEVA, MPA, OB/GYN DEPARTMENT ADMINISTRATOR, APPOINTED TO THE HISPANIC COUNSELING CENTER BOARD OF DIRECTORS

East Meadow, NY… Ms. Sonia Berrios-Villanueva, MPA, administrator in the OB/GYN department at the Nassau University Medical Center, has been appointed to the board of directors for the Hispanic Counseling Center.

In a letter dated February 16, 2011, Cheryl D.M. Vanek, President of the Hispanic Counseling Center congratulated Ms. Berrios-Villanueva: “I am pleased to announce that at yesterday’s board of directors meeting at Hispanic Counseling Center, the board approved your nomination to join the agency’s board of directors. Welcome to the Hispanic Counseling Center. We look forward to working with you to further the mission of the agency. Thank you for your willingness to serve on our board.”

The Hispanic Counseling Center, Inc., is a not-for-profit bilingual, bicultural counseling agency serving Nassau County’s Hispanic community. The center was originally established in 1977 by the Nassau County Department of Drug and Alcohol Addiction to provide substance abuse treatment services to the County’s Hispanic population, and has since expanded its services. The mission of the Hispanic Counseling Center is to enhance the strengths of Long Island’s Hispanic families and children through bilingual, bicultural counseling, prevention, vocational, and educational services to enrich their lives, foster economic independence, and nurture dreams for the generation to come.

In congratulating Ms. Berrios-Villanueva on her nomination, Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System said: “This honor is a testament to your commitment to enhance the lives of Long Island’s Hispanic families through various bilingual services. Your support and guidance will help nurture dreams for individuals in your community and generations to come.”

In response to her appointment Ms. Berrios-Villanueva thanked the Hispanic Counseling Center for this opportunity, “I am very honored to have been selected to serve on the board of directors for the Hispanic Counseling Center. The numerous programs the center offers to assist the Hispanic community on Long Island are wonderful. I look forward to a productive and long relationship with the Hispanic Counseling Center.”
