NUMC’S RABBI JILL A. KREITMAN HONORED BY
THE NEW YORK BOARD OF RABBIS AND LAY ADVISORY COUNCIL

East Meadow, NY…Rabbi Jill A. Kreitman, member of the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) pastoral care program, was honored by the New York Board of Rabbis (NYBR) and the Lay Advisory Council at Sukkah in the Sky, an event where she received the Leadership Award for her outstanding community service.  She was also honored for her commitment to providing spiritual guidance to the patients and families of NUMC. The ceremony took place on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at The Sukkah, Fifth Avenue Synagogue in New York City.  Rabbi Kreitman was honored in conjunction with Hadassah Freilich Lieberman, wife of Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut who was the Democratic vice-presidential candidate in the 2000 presidential election.

Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System said; “We applaud Rabbi Jill Kreitman on receiving this prestigious award from the NY Board of Rabbis, demonstrating her commitment to helping patients and families fulfill their religious and cultural responsibilities during their hospital stay and for her outstanding community service.”

In an invitation to the ceremony, the NYBR stated, “We recognize the commitments which our honorees have made to our community. In honor of their outstanding accomplishments, the NYBR Jack D. Weiler Chaplaincy Program will support breast cancer awareness, counseling and chaplaincy initiatives. Proceeds from this event will further our outreach.”

The NYBR is a private non-profit organization with more than 700 members, which makes the NYBR the largest rabbinic inter-denominational body in the world.  The Jack D. Weiler Chaplaincy Program of the NYBR oversees a comprehensive chaplaincy network serving hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and developmentally disabled centers. The chaplains faithfully serve those individuals facing challenging circumstances so that these people will not feel alone or abandoned.

Rabbi Jill, a breast cancer survivor, was recently honored by the New York Board of Rabbis in conjunction with the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Congratulations Rabbi Jill.  We are proud to have you as a member of our Pastoral Care Team,” stated Sister Maureen Chase, director of the pastoral care department at NUMC.


Rabbi Jill A. Kreitman was ordained at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1991. She received masters in Hebrew Literature in 1990 also from the Hebrew Union College. Rabbi Kreitman attended the graduate program in Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary and received a Certificate in Family Education from Fordham University in conjunction with the Board of Jewish Education. She is a graduate of Vassar College where she majored in economics. Rabbi Kreitman was the associate rabbi/director of education at the Community Synagogue in Port Washington from 1991-1998. She then served as the director of education at Central Synagogue in New York City for five years. Rabbi Kreitman is the Rabbi of NUMC as well as Long Island University and was a professor of philosophy at C.W. Post. She is a native of Brooklyn and currently resides in Port Washington with her husband and two daughters.
