NUMC’S PLASTIC SURGERY RESIDENCY PROGRAM RECEIVES MAXIMUM FULL 5 YEAR CONTINUED ACCREDITATION FROM ACGME, WITH ZERO CITATIONS
Tremendous accomplishment resulting from commitment by surgeons to provide excellent training for plastic surgery residents and high level of care to patients
East Meadow, NY – Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announced that the Nassau University Medical Center’s plastic surgery residency program had received the maximum full five year continued accreditation, with zero citations during a survey by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
In a letter dated November 9, 2009, Roger L. Simpson, MD, MBA, director of plastic and reconstructive surgery at NUMC, was notified by the ACGME that the NUMC plastic surgery residency program had demonstrated substantial compliance with the ACGME’s Requirement for Graduate Medical Education without citations. The ACGME site visit took place in June 2009 with the approximately date for the next survey in October of 2014.
Gianelli congratulated Dr. Simpson on receiving reaccreditation and said: “Congratulations to the entire surgical team on achieving this tremendous accomplishment of the maximum full five-year accreditation without citations. Dr. Roger Simpson and his team are to be commended for the excellent training that they provide for our plastic surgery residents and for the superb level of care provided to our patients.”
“Based on this thorough rigorous examination of the program by ACGME field surveyors, a report is made to the Residency Review Committee. The RRC committee by their letter has indicated that the Plastic Surgery Residency program at NUMC is compliance with a thirty-five page list of standards. Compliance without any citations indicates as close as you can get to a perfect interval (5 year) accreditation. We are very proud of this accomplishment. I have never seen such a result in the 30 years that I have been associated with the program,” stated Dr. Roger Simpson.
Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, executive vice president for medical affairs proudly commended the plastic surgeons for their success: “We have achieved a full 5-year accreditation with zero citations. This achievement is based on every aspect of the program from surgeries, attending input, resident satisfaction, delivery of care, organization, administration support and scholarly activity. I believe we can all take pride in this accomplishment. Thank you all for your continued support.”
Glenn Faust, MD, FACS, chair of the department of surgery at NUMC, joined Gianelli and Walerstein in congratulating Dr. Simpson: “This accomplishment further documents the high quality of care that our diverse population receives each and every day of the year at NUMC.”
