NUMC’S OB/GYN DEPARTMENT RESIDENCY PROGRAM RECEIVES CONTINUED FULL ACCREDITATION UNTIL 2014

East Meadow, NY… Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, proudly announced that the Nassau University Medical Center’s department of obstetrics and gynecology residency program has been awarded a three year accreditation as the result of a recent review by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Residency Review Committee (RRC) for obstetrics and gynecology. The accreditation will run from May 19, 2011 to May 1, 2014.

“We extend our congratulations to the department of obstetrics and gynecology, under the leadership of Chaur-Dong Hsu, MD, MPH, FACOG, chair of OB/GYN, for receiving three year accreditation for the residency program. The accreditation for the department of obstetrics and gynecology at NUMC shows the continuous efforts to achieving the high quality of care already provided to our patients and expert teaching to our resident by our clinical staff,” said Gianelli.

Dr. Hsu added, “I am pleased to hear that our residency program was granted three years of RRC accreditation after the site visit in December 2010. I would like specifically to thank Dr. Peter Hong, residency program director, Dr. Elsie Santana-Fox, associate program director and Christine Deiker, for their efforts as well as their leadership in our residency program. I am very honored to have the privilege to work with such a dedicated team of obstetricians and gynecologists who make the patients at NUMC their number one priority on a daily basis.”

NuHealth’s General Obstetrics services are widely regarded as one of the region’s top practices, with the lowest Caesarean section rates of all Long Island hospitals with OB practices today. Prenatal care is offered at both Nassau Medical Associates office in East Meadow, and our Family Health Centers, and each patient establishes a relationship with her own physician and an exceptional nursing staff trained to care for both mother and child. We also hold regular classes in childbirth preparation, breast feeding and infant care, encouraging parents to share their concerns and experience, and provide mutual support. We provide a full array of gynecological services at both our Nassau University Medical Center practice, most of which are also available close to home in our Family Health Centers
