NUMC’S MEENA RAMANI, MD, RECEIVES SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FROM THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS

East Meadow, NY….Meena Ramani, MD, unit chief of child and adolescent psychiatry at the Nassau University Medical Center, has received the Special Achievement Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
In congratulating Dr. Ramani on the special recognition, Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation said:  “You are to be congratulated upon receiving this prestigious recognition for your distinguished service and dedication to the mission and goals of the American Academy of Pediatrics and for your dedication and tireless efforts related to children’s mental health issues.”

Dr. Meena Ramani is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychiatric Association. She joined Nassau University medical center as a pediatric resident in 1988. She completed her pediatric residency in 1991 followed by a residency in General Psychiatry at Beth Israel Hospital, NY and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at North Shore University Hospital Cornell University Medical College.  She received her initial board certification in pediatrics in 1991 followed by board certifications in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry in 1995.
Dr Ramani was the clinical director of Brookhaven Hospital Outpatient Behavioral Health services and the medical director of the outpatient substance abuse services in eastern Long Island from 1995 to 2000. From September 2000 to January 2005, Dr. Ramani worked as the senior vice president of medical services at  St Mary’s Children’ and Family Services/MercyFirst  serving the physical and mental health needs of over 2,000 children in 20 different sites. Her responsibilities included administrative and clinical supervision of psychiatric, pediatric and psychological services including the supervision of the training director of the APA accredited psychology internship program at Mercy/First and research review board.

Dr Ramani has given various presentations to educate the public and primary care physicians regarding the mental health issues of children both in Nassau and Suffolk County. She has also given presentations to mental health professionals both locally and  
outside of New York for the past 14 years. Dr Ramani has volunteered several hours of her time for activities related to advocacy for children’s mental health needs.
 
In accepting the award, Dr. Ramani said:  “It was really a privilege and honor to be recognized while in the company of very accomplished physicians from the metropolitan region all committed to advocating on behalf of children’s mental health issues.”
