HONOR IS A TESTAMENT TO DR. FRIERI’S OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS
AND COMMITMENT TO THE ACAAI
East Meadow, NY. .Marianne Frieri, MD, PhD, an attending physician and chief of the division of allergy and immunology at the Nassau University Medical Center, received the Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI). Dr. Frieri received the award on recognition of her tireless efforts, dedication and enthusiasm on behalf of the ACAAI, as approved by the ACAAI Board of Regents, upon recommendation of the nominating committee, chaired by William K. Dolen, MD.
In congratulating Dr. Frieri upon receiving her award, Steven J. Walerstein, MD, Senior VP for medical affairs and medical director said: “I am delighted to congratulate Dr. Frieri on this prestigious award, given to her in recognition of her outstanding contributions and commitment to the specialty of allergy and immunology.”
The Distinguished Award was given to five other physician recipients in the United States, out of a membership of over 4,500 members. In 2007, Dr. Frieri also received the ACAAI Distinguished Fellow Award in recognition of her scholarly activities and education of medical students, physicians and patients.
Dr. Frieri is a professor of medicine and pathology at the State University of NY at Stony brook and on the faculty at New York Institute of Technology, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.
She served on the ACAAI Board of Regents from 1994 until 1997, and on the JCAAI Board of Directors from 2001 until 2005. She currently serves on the college committees for allergy/immunology training director’s planning, basic and clinical immunology, international food allergy symposium, membership recruitment, pregnancy, women in allergy and women’s health. She was selected by ACAAI and American Medical Association for the ACGME RRC, for Allergy Immunology, 2006-2010, and by ACAAI for the US Gloria Advisory Board in 2008-2009. She was honored with the ACAAI 2006 Distinguished Fellow Award and received Women in Allergy Award in 2002 and from the AAAAI in 2003. Dr. Frieri is past president of the Long Island Allergy and Asthma Society, 1995-97 and currently serves on the Board of Directors and CME committee. Her many other tributes included the CSEA Women in Local Government Recognition Award and Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition.
