NUMC’S DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL DEPRESSION SCREENING DAY, OCTOBER 7, 2010
WHAT: The psychiatry department at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), under the leadership of Nyapati Rao, MD, MS, department chair, is pleased to participate in National Depression Screening Day. Dr. RajveeVora will conduct depression assessments and educate the public about symptoms and treatments available for this illness.
WHEN: Thursday, October 7, 2010 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
WHERE: Nassau University Medical Center, first floor lobby.
WHY: According to Mental Health America (formerly known as the National Mental Health Association) National Depression Screening Day is held during Mental Illness Awareness Week each October. It is designed to call attention to the illness of depression on a national level, educate the public about its symptoms and effective treatments, offer individuals the opportunity to be screened for depression, and connect those in need of treatment to the mental health care system. Clinical depression is a common medical illness affecting more than 19 million American adults each year.
