EAST MEADOW, NY… Lyn D. Weiss, MD, chair of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) at the Nassau University Medical Center, is pleased to announce that three PM&R doctors, Dr. Ricardo Cruz, Dr. Dennis Dowling and Dr. Lynn Schaefer have, recently authored textbook chapters.
Dr. Dowling’s publications include: Progressive inhibition of neuromuscular structures (PINS) technique in Chila, AG. Dr. Cruz’s publication included a chapter entitled “Geriatric Neuro-rehabilitation” in the recently published book Clinical Neurology of Aging, published by Oxford University Press.

Dr. Weiss, added her congratulations to the three doctors: “I congratulate these doctors on their scholarly achievements. Drs. Cruz, Dowling and Schaefer are well known nationally for outstanding contributions in their fields. They continue to elevate the academic standards in the department and in the hospital.”
Ricardo (Eric) Cruz, M.D. joined the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Nassau University Medical Center in 2008 as the director of neurorehabilitation and brain injury services. In addition to brain injury Dr. Cruz is also stroke medical director for Nassau University Medical Center. His other interests include spasticity management and neuroplasticity.
Dr. Dowling is a 1989 graduate of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM) of the New York Institute of Technology. Dr. Dowling was a faculty member of the osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) department of NYCOM from 1990-2003, chairman from 1998-2003, and was promoted to the rank of full professor in January 2001. He has been in private practice in Syosset, New York since 2003. Since 1990, Dr. Dowling has supervised residents in the physical medicine and rehabilitation department at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, Long Island. Dr. Dowling received certification in OMM in 1995 from the American Osteopathic Board for Special Proficiency in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (AOBSPOMM) and was recertified in 2004 by the American Osteopathic Board for Neuro-musculoskeletal Medicine/OMM.
Dr. Schaefer is director of neuropsychology in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at NUMC. She earned her Ph.D. in 2002 from the City University of New York Graduate Center, in the neuropsychology subprogram at Queens College, and is board certified in clinical neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. She was previously a Senior Psychologist at the Rusk Institute of New York University Medical Center, where she also held a faculty appointment. Dr. Schaefer currently holds academic appointments as assistant professor of clinical physical medicine and rehabilitation at the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine and is an adjunct assistant professor of psychiatry at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.
