NUMC SURGERY DEPARTMENT WELCOMES PODIATRIST TARA S. RICHMAN, DPM

East Meadow, New York…. Nassau University Medical Center Department of Surgery, under the leadership of Glenn Faust, MD, has welcomed Tara S. Richman, DPM, a faculty member of the Department of Surgery at the New York College of Podiatry Medicine and a Clinical Instructor on full-time assignment in the Podiatric Division of the NUMC Surgery Department.

“We are delighted to welcome our new podiatrist, Dr. Richman, to the NUMC Surgery Department.  The importance of this new program, with the clear need in our community for podiatry services, particularly with the increasing diabetic population, cannot be overstated,” said Dr. Faust.
NUMC has affiliated with the New York College of Podiatric Medicine to build an academic program in medical and surgical aspects of podiatric care.  The future goal is to develop a stand-alone residency program and involvement of podiatric medical students at NUMC and at the Community Health Centers.

Dr. Richman obtained her clinical training as a podiatric surgical resident at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals, where her rotations included podiatry surgery, infectious disease, general orthopaedics and rehabilitative medicine.  She trained extensively in elective and non-elective podiatry surgery including forefoot, reconstructive rearfoot, trauma and diabetic limb salvage.
Upon completing residency training, Dr. Richman practiced in the Tej Podiatric Group private practice, until September 2007.  Starting in October 2007, Dr. Richman became an attending and clinical instructor at NUMC through her faculty membership at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine.

“Awareness and proper treatment of foot ailments are essential for both employees and the community, for optimal comfort and function.  Prevention of pedal deformities, infections, and ulcerations is key for those at risk, namely individuals with diabetes and circulatory problems.  I am privileged to be an integral part of the healthcare family at NUMC,” states Dr. Richman.

The podiatry services being offered at NUMC include wound care, diagnosis and treatment of infections, dermatologic conditions, nail pathology, podiatric deformities, fractures and trauma, bunions, hammertoes, heel spurs, and evaluation for orthotics and corrective devices.  Dr. Richman will provide in-house consults during normal business hours, as well as provide outpatient clinic sessions on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.  A Wound clinic, limited to the foot and ankle meets on Friday mornings.  To schedule an appointment with the Podiatry Division at NUMC, please call 572-6262.
