East Meadow, NY, May 26, 2017 ― Victor Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, NuHealth/NUMC’s President/CEO, announces that the Nassau University Medical Center received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll. Silver Plus and Gold Plus awards are advanced levels of recognition acknowledging hospitals for consistent compliance with quality measures embedded within the patient management tool. Target: Stroke Honor Roll is awarded to stroke centers that treat stroke patients within 60 minutes from emergency department arrival, and 50% or more of acute ischemic stroke patients treated with IV-t-PA.
“Please join us in congratulating all members of the stroke team, recognizing the leadership of Satish Kadakia, MD, Renzo Mieles, MD and Grace Ting, MD, with emphasis on quick identification and assessment of stroke patients coming to the ED and giving the IV-t-PA within 60 minutes from arrival. Due to that, NUMC has received the Target: Honor Roll Award,” stated Dr. Politi.
Dr. Victor Politi also added that “NUMC continues to strive for excellence in the acute treatment of stroke patients and that the recognition from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Stroke-further reinforces our teams’ hard work and our commitment to quality stroke care.”
As a Primary Stroke Designated Center, NUMC uses a standardized method of delivery care based on the brain attack coalition’s “Recommendations for Establishment of Primary Stroke Centers”. NUMC also demonstrates the application of and compliance with clinical practice guidelines published by the ASA/AHA or equivalent evidence –based guidelines.
Satish Kadakia, MD, Chairman/Neurology mentioned that according to the ASA/AHA, “Stroke is No. 5 cause of adult death in the United States, but still remains the number one cause of adult disability”. With team effort and dedication of all staff involved in the care of all admitted stroke/TIA patients, and in ensuring that all the required core measures are met, NUMC has received the above award for the last three consecutive years.” Lastly, Dr. Kadakia reiterated that when it comes to stroke, we should always remember that “Time is Brain”.
