NUMC Chairman Bruderman Congratulates Dr. L. Carlos Zapata on His New Role
as Organized Medical Staff Councilor

EAST MEADOW, NY – – Another outstanding Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) physician is being recognized as a leader in New York’s medical community. L. Carlos Zapata, MD, FACEP, Attending Physician in NUMC’s emergency department, was recently elected Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS) Councilor of the Medical Society of the State of New York. The Medical Society is the state’s principal professional organization for physicians, residents, and medical students of all specialties.

A physician at NUMC since July 2014, Dr. Zapata is also a founding faculty member and Program Director of the Transitional Year Residency at the hospital. A Plainview resident, Dr. Zapata received his medical degree from New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine and completed his emergency medicine residency at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

“Our hospital community is enormously proud of Dr. Zapata for being recognized by his peers with his new role,” stated NUMC Chairman Matthew Bruderman. “Our doctors here at NUMC consistently demonstrate a commitment to patient care that goes far beyond the walls of the hospital. Their dedication to advancing the practice of medicine and ensuring effective patient advocacy make NUMC a vital institution for Long Island’s communities.”

“It is an honor to be elected MSSNY Councilor and I look forward to representing the hospital medical staff physicians around New York. I look forward to working with physicians from around the state to move medicine forward,” said Dr. Zapata.

Dr. Zapata’s other leadership roles in the medical community include serving as President of the Medical Society of the County of Queens (2017-2018), Speaker of the American Medical Association Young Physician Section, and Councilor of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).
