NUMC PHYSICIAN, DENNIS DOWLING, DO, TO RECEIVE NYS OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL SOCIETY PHYSICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD

 

WELL-DESERVED HONOR FOR EXPERT CLINICIAN AND TEACHER WHO RUNS NUMC’S BACK PAIN CENTER AND TEACHES OSTEOPATHIC MANIPULATION TO RESIDENTS

 

East Meadow, NY…….Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announced that Dennis Dowling, DO, sessional attending physician in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Nassau University Medical Center, will be presented with the Physician of the Year Award by the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society.  “Congratulations on this well-deserved honor for your exceptional service and commitment to the osteopathic profession. It is a wonderful testament to the twenty years that you have spent as a clinician and teacher of our residents at NUMC,” stated Gianelli.

 

Dr. Dowling, who will accept his award at an April 9th reception, received notification of his upcoming award from Richard Terry, DO,  NYSOMS president, who congratulated him by stating: “For many years, you have been supporting NYSOMS by volunteering your time and expertise at countless conventions and continuing medical education seminars. You have literally touched the lives of hundreds of DOs, whose patients are still benefiting from your talent and generosity.”

 

The chair of the physical medicine and rehabilitation department at NUMC, Lyn Weiss, MD, was excited that one of her attendings, Dr. Dowling, would be receiving this prestigious award: “You are so well deserving of this honor, especially for your service and commitment to NYSOMS but also in recognition of the twenty years that you have spent teaching our residents and as a wonderful clinician for our patients, by running our back pain clinic and teaching osteopathic manipulation to our residents.”

 

Dr. Dowling is a 1989 graduate of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM) of the New York Institute of Technology and has taught at many of the colleges of osteopathic medicine, and other educational programs, both nationally and in Europe and Japan.
Dr. Dowling was a faculty member of the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) Department of NYCOM from 1990-2003, chairman from 1998-2003, and was promoted to the rank of full professor in January 2001. Holding the rank of clinical professor, he has academic appointments to the Mid-Western University Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine and Western University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has been in private practice in Syosset, New York since 2003. The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners appointed him as a consultant and the director of OMM assessment for the COMLEX-PE examination in June of 2004.

 

Since 1990, Dr. Dowling has supervised residents in a clinic at the physical medicine and rehabilitation department at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, Long Island.

 

Dr. Dowling received certification in OMM in 1995 from the American Osteopathic Board for Special Proficiency in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (AOBSPOMM) and was recertified in 2004 by the American Osteopathic Board for Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/OMM. He was certified in family practice in 1997 and recertified in 2005. His F.A.A.O. fellowship was earned in 1999.

 

Dr. Dowling has written extensively and published numerous textbooks, guides and journal articles. He has also served in leadership position on numerous professional committees. He resides in Baldwin, New York.
