Nassau University Medical Center has nominated Joyce Meisinger, RN, Nurse Manager for the newly renovated Pediatric Clinic and Child Development Center, for the Nassau -Suffolk Hospital Council Nurse of Excellence award.  Ms. Meisinger has been an employee of NUMC for over thirty years.  Her peers and supervisors describe her as a strong leader who is sensitive to the needs of the clinic’s diverse patient population.

Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation, was delighted to announce the well-deserved nomination and stated, “She serves as a role model to nurses both within and outside the pediatric division.  Her outstanding achievements in the nursing department and her activities outside our facility support our nomination.  We wholeheartedly, and without reservation, consider our nominee worthy of the Nassau – Suffolk Hospital Council Nurse of Excellence Award.”

Ms. Meisinger oversees the delivery of health services to our pediatric population with approximately 16,000 visits per year.  As Nurse Manager in the Pediatric Clinic, she has successfully initiated systems that protect her young patients from error.  Ms. Meisinger has developed a vaccine check system to ensure accuracy in NUMC’s high volume, fast paced work environment.

Just this year Ms. Meisinger has planned and implemented the use of an electronic medical record in the pediatric clinics and worked with the information technology department to develop and test vaccine entry.  She also assisted in the development of the needed fields for several flow forms used in pediatrics.  As the project champion, Ms. Meisinger has earned the respect of her peers, her subordinates, and hospital leadership.

Julie Mirkin, Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services at the Nassau Health Care Corporation, concluded by saying, “In her thirty-three years as an employee of NUMC, Ms. Meisinger has been an exemplary nurse and is most deserving of this prestigious award.”
