FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

NUMC KIWANIS CLUB ACHIEVES DISTINGUISHED STATUS WITHIN THE NEW YORK STATE KIWANIS DISTRICT, RECEIVING FIRST PLACE SERVICE AWARD, YOUNG CHILDREN PRIORITY ONE FOR SUCCESSFUL TEDDY BEAR HOSPITAL DAY

— STATE RECOGNITION OF NUMC KIWANIS CLUB IS WELL DESERVED AND PRESTIGIOUS HONOR RESULTING FROM MEMBERS’ EXTENSIVE SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY –

East Meadow, NY… Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation, announced that the Nassau University Medical Center Kiwanis Club had been awarded the “Club of Distinction” from the New York State District Kiwanis Clubs and the Young Children Priority One Service Award for participation in the successful Teddy Bear Hospital Day held at NUMC.

“I wish to extend our congratulations to the members of the NUMC Kiwanis Club for receiving this very impressive distinction.  It is a well-deserved honor for those employees who work at NUMC and participate in the Kiwanis community service, supporting NUMC patients and their families,” said Mr. Gianelli.
On hand to accept the awards at the New York State Mid-Year conference were Carla Vultaggio, RN, NUMC Kiwanis Secretary and Janet St. John, RN, Distinguished Past President.

The Nassau University Medical Center Kiwanis Club chartered in 1995, as the only hospital-based Kiwanis Club in the world, has received the New York District Young Children Priority One Service Award for their participation in Teddy Bear Day for 2007.  Over 400 children from the hospital and surrounding communities brought their Teddy Bears to be “treated” at NUMC.  The children experienced what going to the hospital was like through their Teddy Bears.  NUMC staff hoped to decrease their fears and anxieties should they ever need to be hospitalized.

Kiwanis is a global organization for volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.  Linda Walsh is the current President of the NUMC Kiwanis.  For information on joining or supporting their efforts, please call 572-8771.
