NUMC DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION’S   NEUROMUSCULAR REFERENCE BOOK TO BE TRANSLATED INTO CHINESE BY HO-CHI BOOK PUBLISHING IN TAIWAN

EAST MEADOW, NY……Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announced that the NUMC department of physical medicine and rehabilitation’s (PM&R), new reference book entitled “Neuromuscular Quick Pocket Reference” has been approved for translation into Chinese by Ho-Chi Book Publishing in Taiwan. The book, published by Demos Medical Publishers, was authored by PM&R chair, Lyn Weiss, MD and by two of her residents, Drs. Rawa Jaro Araim and Maryam Rafael Aghalar and includes contributions from most of the residents and attendings in the department. One of Dr. Weiss’s earlier books, Easy EMG, had previously also been translated into Chinese.

“Congratulations to Drs. Weiss, Araim and Aghalar on the publication of the new PM&R pocket reference book, focusing on neuromuscular issues and now with a signed agreement for translation into Chinese. This book, the sixth medical textbook that Dr. Weiss and the PM&R department have published, with a complex Chinese translation slated for October 2013, will benefit allied health professionals in English speaking countries, as well as now in China, helping them deal with the musculoskeletal system, and deliver better care to all their patients,” said Gianelli.

In a congratulatory letter, Reina Santana, director of special sales and rights at Demos Medical Publishing/Demos Health, indicated: “I am happy to inform you that the publication house Ho-Chi Book Publishing, in Taiwan, has signed a translation agreement to publish the Complex Chinese edition of Neuromuscular Quick Pocket Reference. The estimated publication date is October 2013.”

The book was conceived by Dr. Araim, who believed that physical medicine and rehabilitation residents needed an efficient way to learn about the various musculoskeletal and neurological tests. They needed to know what the test was called, how to perform it, and what the results meant. Although originally intended for PM&R residents, this book is applicable for most health care practitioners, including allied health professionals, students, residents and attendings who deal with the neuromusculoskeletal system.

Dr. Weiss indicated: “I am extremely proud that the PM&R department continues to make significant contributions to the fields of PM&R. I am confident that this book, originally in English and now soon to be translated into Chinese, will solidify the national reputation that our residency program and our department have maintained for decades.”
