NUHEALTH’S MARTIN DIAMOND, DO, RECIPIENT OF NYIT RILAND MEDAL OF PUBLIC SERVICE

East Meadow, NY……..Martin Diamond, DO, director of osteopathic medical education at the Nassau University Medical Center, has been selected to be a recipient of the Riland medal of Public Service by the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) College of Osteopathic Medicine and the School of Health Professions. The award will be presented at NYIT’s Osteopathic Medicine and health Professions Student Convocation on Monday, September 9, 2013. Dr. Diamond was notified of his selection in a letter signed by Barbara Ross-Lee, DO, FACOFP, vice president for health sciences and medical affairs.

The medal, named in honor of NYI’s founding trustee, W. Kenneth Riland, DO, whose efforts contributed to the establishment of NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to the enhancement of the health care workforce, medical education, community advocacy, osteopathic philosophy, research, academic leadership and graduate medical education. At the convocation, members of the NYIT entering medical class of 2017 and the student members of the School of Health professionals who are entering into the clinical phase of their education will be welcomed and Dr. Diamond’s achievements will be honored and recognized at this occasion.

It is a well deserved honor for a physician who has dedicated his career to teaching and providing guidance to hundreds of medical students and residents,” said Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, NuHealth’s executive vice president for medical affairs and medical director. “It is great news and another reflection on the department of osteopathic medical education and on Dr. Diamond’s leadership.”

Dr. Diamond indicated: “I am humbled and honored to have been selected for the NYIT Riland Medal of Public Service and look forward to furthering the College of Osteopathic Medicine’s mission as well as providing valuable advice to the multidisciplinary students in attendance at the convocation. I am profoundly grateful and touched by the great recognition accorded to me by NYIT officials”

Dr. Diamond is the current Director of Osteopathic Medical Education at Nassau University Medical Center. Dr. Martin Diamond received certification from the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians in 1973 and re-certified in 1995. He practiced in the field of General Practice/ Family Practice for 35 years. In 2003 he became a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.

Among many others throughout his career, Dr. Diamond’s accomplishments include distinguished awards from the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society and the National Alumni Association College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery. In November 2009, Dr. Diamond was awarded the American Osteopathic Association’s (AOA) Distinguished service certification; the highest award bestowed by the AOA. As past Chairman of the New York State Board of Medicine, he also served many years on the Board of Professional Medical Conduct for the State of New York and the Board of Directors of the National Alumni Association of the college of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Diamond served as both Director and President of the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society, as a Director of the Osteopathic Family Practice Residency program, DME, and the Director of Osteopathic Medical Services at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Presently, he is a member of the House of Delegates of the AOA, after many years as Chairman of the New York Delegation to AOA House, and the founding Dean of the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine- Harlem.
