NUHEALTH’S LARRY SLATKY, RE-ELECTED VICE-CHAIR OF THE JOINT COMMISSION’S LONG TERM CARE PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNICAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Seasoned long term care executive to represent the LTC – PTAC at the Joint Commission’s Board of Commissioners Standards and Survey Committee

East Meadow, NY….Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation, announced that Larry Slatky, executive vice president for operations for the NuHealth System had received notification of his re-election as vice-chair on the Joint Commission’s Long Term Care Professional and Technical Advisory Committee (LTC and PTAC) for the next two years, 2012-2013.  Mr. Slatky, who serves as the representative for the American College of Health Care Administrators on the Joint Commission PTAC, will represent the LTC PTAC at the Joint Commission’s Board of Commissioners’ Standards and Survey Committee meetings as vice chair, however, actively represented their long term care professional association on the Joint Commission PTAC for the last four years.

The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 15,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States.  Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as the symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.  The mission of the Joint Commission is to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of health care accreditation and related services that support performance improvement in health organizations.

Gianelli said:  “Congratulations on your reappointment as vice chair of the PTAC.  The Professional and Technical Advisory Committees (PTACs) are an integral part of the Joint Commission’s advisory structure.  By representing the views of a diverse group of professional association’s and other interests and by providing expert advice, PTAC representatives assist the Joint Commission in the development and refinement of standards and elements of performance.”

The value of the PTACs stems from the diversity of perspectives and the discussion and debate that occurs at the PTAC meetings.  In the final analysis, PTAC representatives are expected to be proponents of their respective bodies of knowledge to The Joint Commission, and proponents of the Joint Commission to their constituents.

In accepting the appointment to PTAC, Mr. Slatky said:  “I am honored and proud to have been re-elected as vice chair. I am delighted to be part of the continuum of long term care and being able to participate in developing, refining standards and elements of performance, presenting revisions of the PTAC committee and interpreting their recommendations to the Joint Commission Board of Commissioners.”
