East Meadow, NY…Ilisse Perlmutter, MD, director of child and adolescent psychiatry at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) has been included in the Best Doctors in America 2011-2012 database.
According to Best Doctors, the selection process was a year long process, with questionnaires sent to thousands of top physicians in the United States. Nominees were sought in almost every specialty, with the emphasis on direct patient care.

Dr. Perlmutter recently joined the medical staff at NUMC as director of child and adolescent psychiatry in August 2010. Her experience encompasses inpatient and outpatient settings, and she has held leadership roles in various New York hospitals, including serving as director of residency training in child and adolescent psychiatry, clinical director of an OMH child and adolescent facility, and division chief of adult inpatient services.
She graduated from Harpur College of SUNY-Binghamton, and subsequently earned her M.S.W. at Yeshiva University. After a brief career in social work, she returned to school and received her M.D. from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. After an internship in pediatrics, she completed a residency in psychiatry at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute.
Dr. Perlmutter is a Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and a member of the American Psychiatric Association. She is a senior examiner and has served for twenty years as an examiner in general and child and adolescent psychiatry for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Her publications, presentations, and research experience focus on clinical, epidemiologic, and psychopharmacologic issues in child and adolescent psychiatry, and she has made frequent media appearances addressing topical issues.
