NUHEALTH’S GIANELLI, TO TEACH A HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY GRADUATE CLASS IN HEALTHCARE ECONOMICS

East Meadow, NY… Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, has been invited to return as an adjunct faculty member at Hofstra University, where he will be teaching a graduate class in healthcare economics for the summer semester from May 25th – June 27th, 2011.

Gianelli expects to cover various topics in his class including concentrating on a number of topics relating to healthcare economics, mainly how economics apply to healthcare, supply and demand, principles of insurance with a review of social insurance in the U.S., and recent healthcare reform efforts by President Obama and its implications.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to return to Hofstra for a second year of teaching and look forward to continue to work with the faculty in providing graduate students with insights and knowledge regarding all areas of healthcare financing, especially public healthcare financing, resulting from experience obtained during the last four years as the leader of a major multi-facility health system in Nassau County and in prior years, in a senior executive capacity overseeing significant budgets from municipalities in North Hempstead and Nassau County,” said Gianelli.  “I am gratified by the confidence placed in me by the Hofstra University administration and look forward to this summer of teaching.”

He has served in this position since June 1, 2006. Previously, Mr. Gianelli served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the NuHealth System. He was appointed to this position on March 8, 2006.

For the prior ten years, Mr. Gianelli served in senior executive positions for two Long Island municipalities. He was Deputy County Executive for Budget and Finance for Nassau County and Director of Operations for the Town of North Hempstead.

Mr. Gianelli serves on several boards of directors, including Regional Policy Council 2 of the American Hospital Association as well as the Executive Committees of Healthfirst and the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems. He has delivered presentations at conferences across the country on public hospitals, health reform, and public finance. And he has received numerous professional, educational, and civic awards, most recently being designated by the Long Island Business News as one of the 20 most influential Long Islanders in 2010.

Mr. Gianelli earned a Bachelors Degree in History from St. John’s University, a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from Brown University, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Dowling College, and a Masters Degree in Public Health from Columbia University.
